Characterising the PSUV: decide in haste, repent at leisure

Stuart King for Permanent Revolution thinks we should not rush to judgment on the nature of the PSUV

ImageWe would have no disagreement with much of comrade Flakin’s analysis of the nature of the government of Hugo Chavez. Problems arise when the comrade moves from this to a political characterisation of the PSUV. "Analysing the PSUV is, in contrast to most new parties, remarkably easy: the PSUV is in the unusual position of being founded as a government party. After a long and intensive phase of engagement with the Trotskyist grouping CoReP in the name of a possible reproachment we now want to draw a balance and, in hindsight, look at our individual analyses taken together and thereby make a critical judgement. Beside individual tactical differences that arise unavoidably, there are also strategical differences, which make a more intensive cooperation impossible.

 With the coalition pact between ÖVP and SPÖ, whose detailed contents have not been presented yet, although the fundamental basis however is already known, Alfred Gusenbauer has created something sparkling - the formation of an SP minority government of a new type. Because what else is this coalition, in which social-democracy occupy the place as winner in the elections, and indeed the Federal Chancellor, where the openly bourgeois ÖVP is however in control of all the key departments? Or, to put it more sharply: Commentators such as Hans Rau (der Standard) are right - the SPÖ leadership have dropped their trousers. But not only from weakness, but to show their voters what they are really going to do now, "after the clear mandate for a change "(Gusenbauer on election Sunday): Indeed to lick the SP-grandees on the arse.

Fusion of GRA and DNK

GRA Fusion 

ImageIn mid Feb 07 the groups DNK and GRA fused after a long discussion into the Gruppe für revolutionär- marxistische ArbeiterInnenpolitik. Our intention is the building of a revolutionary-proletarian party and a new workers' International. Here, we publish the agreed declaration of Fusion, from the proper conference of the 'new' GRA.
